Shipping method defaulting logic

Hello,

Considering there are no OM extensions or pre-transformation rules to default the shipping method on the sales order line, where is the shipping method being defaulted from as per standard process? Is it from Manage Transit Times? Does the flag "default shipping method" affects to that logic?
