Primary Contact Functionality on Custom Object

OOTB CX has Primary Contact Functionality on Account.

We have created a Custom Object and it has M:M relationship with Contact object.

How can we configure the Primary field concept in this custom relationship.

Also how can we extend it to the Resource Object for teams as well.
