Benchmark Job - how is it linked with Salary and Compensation

We would like to implement Benchmark Job. But the documentation available on it is very limited…
So I'd like to know if anyone knew how you use it after you created it in Jobs ? For what purpose ?
We saw that it is available in multiple modules, as compensation and talent, how do you guys use it there ?
I read it is used for survey's, for salary surveys in particular but how ? For what purpose ?
→ we try to comprehend the use and point of it for a company.
