How to convert date with timestamp to only date and compare to validate only dates

Summary:

Hello,

We have a requirement (DOR) to compare two attributes (DEI_ATTRIBUTE_TIMESTAMP1 and DEI_ATTRIBUTE_TIMESTAMP2) they should be identical only in dates but time can be different. But the value set is TIMESTAMP. I have tried the following but ended up with an error (RootCause Exception message: Unparseable date: "yyyy-MM-dd" Call Stack: java.text.DateFormat.parse(DateFormat.java:366)). looking for inputs and suggestions.
