How do I identify metadata with no data?

Summary:

We have over 100,000 members in our Project Dimension. Each year we go through the process of exporting data, importing into a SQL database, and querying to identify the projects with no data. (this process was recommended during our engagement with OCS.) The export/import process is very time consuming, but the actual SQL query runs in a matter of seconds.

Is there an easier way to identify these dimension members (with no data) without exporting from Planning and importing into another system? Is it possible to perform this using Groovy in EPM?

We need to identify these members so that we can clear the Project dimension as part of the annual maintenance and preparation for the budget cycle.
