drop down appears even when the value in grade is only one

Hello,
while creating requisition for a position based req, we have grades and other details tagged to the position code.
Hence once we select the position the grade and other details auto populates as required, however when even though in position there is only one grade, we get to see a drop down option , my concern is that why is there a drop down option when there is only one grade ?
i understand if the grade values where 2 or 3 , then the drop down makes sense , but not sure why is it present even when in manage positions its only one value present.
