Is there a way to Create Products in Sales for Service without Item Master setups

We are implementing CX service, Sales in place already. Need to define Products and hierarchy for Service tech to use or link the Knowledge content.
Do we need Item Master and Product Hub to create products. Does Create Products look at Master items.
