How to escalate a journal?

We have a scenario wherein the first approver of a journal filed an emergency leave thus was not able to approve the said journal. What is our options so that we can immediately send the journal to the second approver?

I'm thinking of the following but not sure if possible within oracle fusion finance only:
1. Admin to set the employee status of the first approver to absent and the approval will route to second approver automatically.

2. Initiator/creator can manually escalate a journal to the manager of the first approver or the highest approver in the hierarchy.
