Can we update a custom field in Subscription Product in Active status

Summary: We have a requirement to update a custom field in Subscription Product line in Active status. The subscription product starts billing on start date but revenue recognition depends on an external event to be fulfilled. We want to use a custom field value on Subscription Product which will be updated from Salesforce and is used with service mapping to RMCS as performance obligation event to start revenue recognition from the start date of the subscription line.
