Is there a EL Expression that we can write to retrieve the approval transaction status?

Summary:

Our requirement is when an employee submits an ICP for approval, the transaction status will be in 'InProgress' till it gets approved. We want to return this 'InProgress' approval status using an el expression. We want to restrict the employees from submitting multiple requests by using this status retrieved from el expression.

Can anyone provide the syntax to return this transaction status?
