How does the Knowledge workflow step assignment works while creating the knowledge article?

Hi All,

We created a Knowledge workflow with one step. When we create a knowledge article and click on Start workflow, the workflow is starting but the Assignee field is blank. Is this how it works?

Does the author need to manually add assignee to the workflow?

Does the user need any additional privileges/roles to get them in the LOV of Assignee?

Thanks in Advance. It would be helpful if anybody can explain or share the relevant documents.
