Email delivery method for invoices and Bill Management

Is it supported functionality to have a customer that will get an invoice delivered to them automatically by email while they are registered as an external user for Bill Management? I read somewhere that we have to remove email delivery method first and print the invoices to make them display in Bill Management for a customer. Is this information accurate or are both options available for use at the same time?
