Sales order change should not retrigger approval process

Summary:

Sales order changes should not retrigger approval process if there is an update on certain fields

Content (please ensure you mask any confidential information):

Sales order is created and already completed SO approval process.

Now If this sales order is updated either manually or through REST API then it should not retrigger approval process. Is there any way to achieve this?

If not can we restrict sales order versioning if there is an update on certain fields (customer PO number, Requested ship Date, FOB, header & line EFF values) so that it should not re-trigger approval process again.
Kindly suggest if anyone has already worked on this.
