How does 'is interim successor' work in succession management.

Summary:

We terminated/Transferred an employee and had already created an succession plan to replace this terminated/Transferred employee where we had added other candidate and selected 'is interim successor'. But this added employee is not showing up in place of terminated employee. We have used position as key value.
