How do I process the content of an Atom Feed REST based call in order to read the FlexFields - OIC3

I am using a REST api connector to retrieve the empassignment atomfeed updates from my HCM instance, and then I am attempting to look for a specific fieldname that has been updated and shows up in the Flexfields (which is why I cannot use the HCM Adapter.) I am able to see the return payload from the Rest call, but since the main payload is xml and the content is CDATA with a JSON payload I am unable to process the actual content and look for the flexfield.
