Is it possible to apply a miscellaneous receipt to an open credit memo?

We have and open AR credit memo that needs to be cleared. User was trying to enter a negative miscellaneous receipt to apply to the open credit memo.

When user selected Reference Type = Credit Memo, the system requires a Reference Number, but the Number field is not visible.
