How to Set an Expiration Date for Local User Passwords

Goal 

This document describes how to set expiration dates/intervals for local user passwords on Oracle Linux. 

Solution 

To enhance system security, System Administrators can implement user password expiry using the chage(1) command. Setting password expiry dates or intervals forces users to regularly change their passwords. 

Password expiration dates are calculated by adding the maximum number of days a user can keep the same password to the last date a user changed it's password. 

To set a password expiry date for a local user's account, follow these steps:
