edited Aug 23, 2024 9:59AM in Linux

Applies to:

Oracle Autonomous Linux - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

OSMS upgrade triggered from the OCI console and upgrade stuck at 100% status for many hours and not finished.

Cause

The upgrade request is received by the instance from OCI OSMS Plugin but OSMS process is in running state and waiting on yum process to finish.

In this case the issue was due to rpm database corruption.

There are a number of factors that can lead to RPM database corruption, such as :

  • Incomplete previous yum transactions
  • Installation of certain third-party software (rpms)
  • Force installing/removing specific packages without dependencies using rpm commands
