Journal Approval Serial Approval Sequence

Hi,

We have a journal approval requirement where there are Two Approval groups that need to approve a journal in sequence.

Lets assume there are 2 groups having 5 different users each. If somebody enters a Manual journal, it should goto Group1 first for approval and once somebody from Group1 approves, journal should goto Group2 for approval.

There is another part, if nobody from Group1 is available for few days, then journal should goto Group2 for approval.

Please guide what are the ways to achieve this requirement. Can we make use of 'Deadline' feature ? if yes, how do I enable it only for Group1?
