are special characters in Multi Dimensional Mapping allowed in ePCM?

hi, the below 2 articles seem very conflicting.

in the first one: "the target values for multi-dimensional mapping must be an explicit member name. Wildcard or special characters are not supported."

In the second one: "the Source and Target Value expressions can use special characters. These characters (typically ? and *) can be prefixed or suffixed by one or more characters, which filters the source value by that prefix or suffix."

Background: we are trying to migrate from PCM to ePCM. In PCM, we have always had a multi dimensional mapping where the target is *. however, now in ePCM, we get an error "Error: Target Value * is not valid". Screenshot attached
