Oracle Linux: Instance Created from Backup After Expanding LVM Boot Volume to NVME Disk Fails to Boo
Applies to:
Oracle Linux - Version 8 and later
Symptoms
The new instance created from a backup fails to boot and goes to an emergency dracut prompt.
Cause
The LVM boot logical volume was extended to a local NVME disk in the original instance.
Solution
The OCI backup only backup OCI Volumes. The NVME extents on the NVME will not be backed up, causing the restore to be an invalid boot volume.
To solve the issue, the extents in the NVME volume must be moved to the boot volume, and the NVME disk must be removed from the boot volume group.
