can we attach a fast formula to a date column on the compensation grade?

I attached a fast formula to derive a custom seniority date value to the seeded Hire date column on the Compensation grid. Return value is date.
I get the following error when testing the fast formula using formula tester. can we attach a fast formula to a date column on the compensation grade?
