OCI - Network Interface Naming Issues When Changing VM Shape
in Linux
Applies to:
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A
Linux x86-64
Symptoms:
- The system fails to activate the network interface after a reboot, resulting in a loss of network connectivity
- Potential error messages indicating that the specified interface cannot be found
Cause:
When changing the shape of a VM, you may encounter network connectivity issues due to changes in network interface naming.
Many Linux distributions use predictable network interface naming conventions, which means that interface names can change based on system configuration and hardware topology.
For example, when transitioning from an E4.flex to an E5.flex shape, the assigned names of network interfaces may also change.
