Goal

This document outlines the steps required to change the collection interval for sar in an Oracle Linux 8 or Oracle Linux 9 instance.

The default collection interval is 10 mins.  This can be checked with "systemctl" as follows:

$ sudo systemctl status sysstat-collect.timer
● sysstat-collect.timer - Run system activity accounting tool every 10 minutes
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/sysstat-collect.timer; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
   Active: active (waiting) since Wed 2024-10-23 15:11:44 GMT; 2s ago
  Trigger: Wed 2024-10-23 15:20:00 GMT; 8min left

Oct 23 15:11:44 hostname systemd[1]: sysstat-collect.timer: Succeeded.
Oct 23 15:11:44 hostname systemd[1]: Stopped Run system activity accounting tool every 10 minutes.
Oct 23 15:11:44 hostname systemd[1]: Stopping Run system activity accounting tool every 10 minutes.
Oct 23 15:11:44 hostname systemd[1]: Started Run system activity accounting tool every 10 minutes.

Howdy, Stranger!
