Create DCL on Opportunity from Custom Object

Summary:

We have a custom text field on a custom object called Premise. We would like to create a DCL on the Opportunity object where the user could select values from that custom text field. Relationship exists however that field is not available to create the DCL for. We need to know if this is possible and the steps to accomplish.
