purpose of collection in Order Management

Hi Team,

we have setup a new cloud environment, we define Customers, Master Org, Items. as a standard practice we run collections either from GOP springboard or via supply chain planning.

The question i have is , assume client business process doesn't use Scheduling/ GOP/ Planning/ doesn't even have inventory transactions in OM. OM is just used as a place holder to mirror legacy orders , including change in order line status as per regular O2C cycle, (its only change of line status, based on some OIC event , NO pyhsical inv transaction in OM , example NO : reservation, scheduling , pick release , ship confirm etc. ) then do we really need to run the collections in first place? wont OM recognize new customers, items and
