Vanity URL use of legacy HTML solution still possible ?

Hello,
Since release 24A, the Vanity URL feature now works with reverse proxy setup, which is designed to replace the old HTML solution. Here's the release notes about that :
My client would like to implement the Vanity URL feature today. So are we forced to use the reverse proxy setup, or does the previous HTML solution still supposed to be feasible ?
