special characters in customer names and addresses

Looking for a definitive list of special characters that can be used in AR customer name and addresses.

A SR we had open said "Considering that all the information is stored in SQL databases, we recommend to avoid all except the underscore ( _ ) , as any other can trigger an unwritten command in the data base and will cause an error. "

We operate in multiple locations where characters are common. Name was causing an issue with collections metrics scheduled process
