Upon archiving and purging accounting data, will the corresponding transactions be purged?

Summary:

After referring to the official documentation (link attached), we want to understand if archived transactions can no longer be queried, for instance via the Procurement Workarea. Additionally, can data be archived and purged for periods that haven't been closed yet? From testing, we understand a minimum of 1 fiscal year must be retained.
