Can collaborators only action tasks they are assigned to if given Edit permissions in Security?

Summary:

This client has a sister LE acting as an Agent, instead of given these users access to the Agent portal as an external agent we are planning to include these agents as Collaborators using security permissions to lock down their capabilities under a Job Requisition, but they will need to edit/add documents to certain tasks. If we give Collaborators edit permissions to Job Reqs, is there a way to lock down which tasks this Collaborator can action?
