"Last Logged on" Audit clarification

Summary:

Wanting to understand where the "last logged on" value is derived from in the audit tables.

For example if a user approves a transaction via email without actually logging into HCM does that also count as "last logged on" or is this only populated from when the user actually logs into the HCM system itself/directly.

Trying to find documentation on this for clarification purposes.
