Approval escalation is not working as required.

Summary:

When approval escalation is setup, after the duration of 7 days we have set the task to escalate it and we have set the maximum number of escalations as 1. So instead of moving to the next approver after expiration of the task it's escalating to the user managers.

We require it to move to the next approver not the user's managers.
If this is the idea functionality please do suggest how configure the required scenario
