How to avoid GOP to consider multiple units of resource simultaneously

We have a scenario where we have multiple units of resource available but while promising a Sales Order, GOP considers that available capacity as many times as number of resource which is fine to calculate the backlog but not right while calculating ship date for a single sales order as it cannot run on multiple machines simultaneously. Did anyone come across such scenario ever?
