Approve Job Offer - Need help with creating rules using offer grade rates

Summary:

I have one of the Job Offer Approval rule is checking whether the proposed amount is exceeding the Salary Grade Maximum, then the approver will be difference from normal case.

My rule will be :(Offer Salary Details.Amount > Offer Salary Details.Grade RateMax)

I would like to check if not every Salary Grade will have the Min and Max, when there is a Salary Grade without RateMax, will the rule will cause error as

Offer Salary Details.Grade RateMax = null?

Any one have similar experience on using the Grade Rate Min/Max for checking?
