ExaCC: Random NFS Mount Point Drops During RMAN Backups

Environment

  • Platform: Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer X10M-2
  • OS: Oracle Linux 8.0
  • Database: Oracle 19c Enterprise Edition on Grid 23ai
  • Backup: Rubrik with dynamic NFS mounts

Issue

We are experiencing random NFS mount point disconnections during RMAN backups.

Observed behavior:

  • Rubrik mounts 4 NFS points at backup start
  • All 4 mount points drop one by one during backup (random order)
  • No error traces in Oracle Linux system logs
  • RMAN backup obviously fails at the end
  • Issue only occurs on databases >15TB, small databases (<1TB) work perfectly
