Institution list in career section

We have our career section application set up so that the education institution must be selected from the institution list provided by Taleo.  We want to keep it this way so that we don't have 10 variations of the same school name.  However, this seems to create some issues when candidates are trying to apply and their school is not in the list.  If this is the case, they can't get through the application process.  Do you have any adivce on how we can best address this issue?   I know I can have support add the school to the list,
