My Requisitions Export - Is it possible to change the data type of the Amount to a number?

Summary:

A lot of our users are using the My Requisitions Export feature and using this for reporting. I'm relaying a request from one of our users:

I exported a list of requisitions by a specific vendor then opened the file in Excel.

The Approval Amount lists numbers, but the data type is not a number.  Notice there is no sum or average when I highlight 3 cells.

Changing to Accounting or Number on that column did not work.

I had to Find, Replace the "$" first, and remove it, then I could operate on the number values in those cells.

The work around is easy, but it seems like this is bug, and not a feature.
