Can we create approval rule in BPM for Maintenance Work Orders using DFF input

Customer would like to use of DFF to enter the expected cost to be incurred, in Maintenance Work Order, in performing the maintenance tasks. Later, they would like to invoke the approval using the DFF in the BPM rule. Please let us know how this can be achieved.
