Candidate Merge Notification - Auto trigger to candidate

We have a requirement to send out a notification to candidate if they have duplicates and if they are merged. I see there is a category called Candidate Merge Notification. Has anyone used it and if you can help with steps to auto trigger when profiles are merged, that'd be helpful.
