Collectors used as Dunning Configuration for Dunning Plans

We want to send dunning letters by customer groups, but not to use Strategies as they have no Draft Mode.

However, Dunning Plans when used as a Collections Method cannot be linked directly to customers. The ess job 'Send Dunning Letters' has parameters Collector Name From/To. Could we use Collector names to represent Dunning Configurations and hence address certain customer groups only (then the ess job param Dunning Configuration would be the same as a Collector Name)? That would simulate sending letters via profile classes.
Would this be an advisable business practice?
