Difference between AR close pending and Close period status

  1. Please if anyone can help me better understand the difference between AR period status: Closed and close pending.
  2. Which period status allows posting corrections and adjustments?
  3. None of the stated AR period status allow new transactions. Pls advise if this understanding is correct
