SYMPTOMS:

Unable to send email using the mailx program after an Exadata upgrade.

CAUSE:

When sending an email using sendmail, "Name server timeout" message appears, indicating an issue with DNS resolution.

# sendmail -vvvvvvv <username>@<domain>.com
This is a test mail
.<domain>.com: Name server timeout<username>@<domain>.com... Transient parse error -- message queued for future delivery<username>@<domain>.com... queued

SOLUTION:

The issue is with the DNS server. Please engage your DNS/network team to investigate and resolve DNS resolution problems for the affected host.
