OCI: How to Perform Upgrade from Autonomous Linux 7 to 8 Using Leapp Utility

Goal:

This document describes the process of upgrading an Oracle Autonomous Linux instance from release 7 to release 8 by leveraging the Leapp utility.

Solution:

1. When performing an upgrade using Leapp, it is highly recommended to back up the system so that it can be restored to its former state if the upgrade fails. For Oracle Linux instances in OCI, we recommend performing a boot volume backup. Oracle Database systems should be fully backed up before attempting the Leapp upgrade.

2. Verify the Autonomous Linux 7 instance appears under the "Instances" tab within Autonomous Linux in the OCI Console.

3. Ensure the ol7_leapp-x86_64 software source is enabled on the instance.
