Purpose of use match criteria to determine customer in Lockbox

Hi All,

I noticed that there is an option named "use match criteria to determine customer" when creating a lockbox (manage lockbox set up). Does anyone know what is the purpose of that (may be assigning MICR number when the customer is identified through through a transaction number)?
