SSL certificates with cXML punchout

Summary:

We try to understand how PKI is implemented in relation to supplier punchout in Oracle Fusion, since no SSL certificates need to be installed. It happens that a supplier communicates that certificates will be renewed, but this has no impact on the availability of the punchout. Multiple questions have been asked on this subject but I have not seen any clear explanation. Is there any documentation available on this subject?
