Sourcing information on Reports

Hello all
I am trying to prepare a report on Source of candidates. I can find source details on the application, however cannot find the object for source with general candidates (ones that haven't applied to job).
Our recruiters cannot update source fields on applications, only on General profiles.
I am wanting to write a query that says that if there isn't a source on the candidates job application, then use the source on the general profile..
Can anyone assist?
