Data persistence issue: Hidden fields (Area Code/Extension) not clearing on country change

Summary:

Issue: I am experiencing an issue with the Contact Info page regarding international phone formatting

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Enter and save a US-based number including an Area Code and Extension.
  2. Edit the record and change the Country to India.
  3. The Area Code and Extension fields correctly become hidden, and a new Phone Number is saved

Problem: After saving, the previous US-specific data (Area Code and Extension) is still retained in the database/UI rather than being flushed. How can we ensure that changing the country clears out all fields not applicable to the new region?
