Maintenance Work Order Project field was customized to be required but it is not working

Summary:

We have customized the Project field in the maintenance work order creation to be required through a page customization, but when the user goes to create a maintenance work order without it the system is still allowing it to be blank. When the user tries to save in screen an error is generated, but if the user just cancels out the work order is still created without the project field. If the user creates a work order and chooses to save and close initially, there is no error message.
