I am building a dashboard (in online template builder) with various charts and detailed information, all based on one dataset in a BI Publisher Data Model. At the top I have 4 KPI cards that are structured as Data Fields that I dropped into a Layout Grid. The dashboard is interactive in that when you click on a particular value in a chart the rest of the charts and detailed data table at the bottom react and filter for those values. The only place where this does not appear to change is in the KPI cards that are Data Fields.
