Any way to do a programmatic replace report in report packages?

Need to do replace report in a large number of largely homogeneous report packages - any way to achieve this efficiently?

So there is a base reporting package that has been copied 'X' number of times, one for each entity. When a change is made to a single report that is is reflected in the reference doclets of 'X' report packages I have to check out / replace report / check in on each individual report package to get them to reflect the change. Is there any way to script this using epm automate, groovy or any other mechanism?
